NRA: Vital institution, or vile instigation?

The National Rifle Association, a polarizing group…

With a history of being primarily for the promotion of shooting for sport, more than a century later it has its tendrils in the government; often lobbying for controversial laws (or blockage of laws) that stand as the titans of 2A defense.

With this being perhaps the first topic in Kitchen Sink Microscopy history where we’ve possibly found a topic in which we have the most disagreements, we thought this was a prime opportunity to try a new experiment on the show.

Devil’s Advocacy!

Certainly we entertain all manner of thinking in each topic we cover, but ultimately we still carry our biases and it’s always possible that we succumb to cognitive biases when researching these topics. We ask the general question, “Is the NRA overall a good organization to have around in this day and age?” In this upcoming episode, which we’ll record Tuesday, May 26th, we will each argue for our opposing viewpoint.

Erik owns several guns and has a generally positive view of the NRA and its work to preserve the second amendment rights of Americans. Casey is not anti-gun, but rides the fence on the side of skepticism in the intentions of the lobbying group that seems to view any attempt at gun-related legislature as a completely unconstitutional endeavor. With seemingly no grey areas in the NRA, it seems fitting to force the grey. Erik will argue against the institution of the NRA, and Casey will defend them to the hilt.

We want to hear from you!

Please, join the conversation here with talking points you’d like to see addressed. This is sure to be a fun and entertaining episode, as we struggle to not descend into the valley of complacency of thought. We will do our best to articulate the point of view we are opposed to as a way of showing people how approaching a touchy subject from a perspective other than your own can be enlightening and educational… as well as perhaps being far more peaceful.

The episode will air June 26th at 7:30 PM PDT. Come deep sink diving with us as we walk a mile in each other’s shoes.
